OFF-REGISTER 2008

Foundation Projects presents Off-Register, a traveling group exhibition of experimental printmaking. The Off-Register exhibition will showcase prints by a collection of international artists and graphic designers associated through the professional practice of commercial print design, but that do not consider themselves printmakers.

This exhibition explores the relationship these artists and graphic designers have to printing and how commercial processes may inform more traditional methods of fine art print making. The title, Off-Register, refers to a mis-registered color plate pass during printing, as well as acknowledging the artists and designers experimentation with the various techniques of traditional printmaking. Each artist will present one print, produced in editions, that utilize and experiment with various traditional fine art printmaking techniques: serigraphy, lithography, etching, various transfer, block printing, as well as incorporating unconventional methods and experimental techniques of print impressions.

The first stop on this year long exhibition tour opens February 29, 2008 at Chicago’s newly opened AV-aerie exhibition space, located in the former Open End gallery which previously hosted such
exhibitions as Up Our Sleeves and Tragic Beauty.

It's a whole new year and here I am with the first update to the site in months! If you have any problems with the store try a browser other than Firefox. We'll fix that soon. Tim Kerr just sent me this today (look down my friend). It's of one of his latest works and I loves it! Update on Tim: He's still rocking out a bunch of Irish music and is waiting for the latest Monkeywrench record to be released in February. He's also playing in a project called If Bricks Had Wings and they will have their first show in Austin at the FecalFace art opening at Okay Mountain. Okay Mountain is SH artist Michael Sieben's latest gallery space. I'll be back with more on the opening when I get a minute or just go to the Okay Mountain website, Okay? News on Foundation Projects latest traveling show "OFF REGISTER" to come.

A couple of updates. We just got the new shirts back yesterday so we'll snap some pictures and should have them available in the store by the end of the weekend. Artist pages will be up soon after. If you're in Dallas Mark and Brian from Art Prostitute are putting on a show opening Saturday, December 9th featuring Michael Sieben, Travis Millard, Jeremy Fish, and Mel Kadel. Should be pretty sick. Talk to y'all soon.

Were back! And to prove it we have two new shirts on the way from Michael Sieben (Okay Mountain, Bueno Skateboards, Thrasher Magazine) and Michael Coleman (Foundation Gallery, Girl Skateboards).  I guess we're on one of those "guy runs a gallery / skateboarding artist kicks".  The new designs should be available on the site in about 2-3 weeks just in time for Chrishanukkah.  Here's a sneak peak!

In the meantime we still have most of our other designs left including some snazzy long sleeve tees from Travis Millard (AKA: Fudge) and eThos -- perfect for those crappy cold nights.  Click here to enter the store.

I just got word from Mr. Millard that he's about to send a book to print he's been organizing with a publisher for a little over a year.  Kill-ahh...  He also has a group show opening at the Richard Heller Gallery on Nov. 18th.  Then he's heading to Dallas for a show at Art Prostitue with Michael Sieben, Jeremy Fish, and Mel Kadel which opens sometime in December.  Look for a new update to the Fudge site soon too!

Jeremiah Ketner just opened a group show this past Saturday titled, Wild Wild Midwest at DvA Gallery in Chicago.  Other artists in the mix include Mike Burnett, Chris Ryniak, and Colin Johnson.  You can check out Jeremiah's work for the show here

eThos recently had his laptop stolen, but if each of his 4,300,000 MySpace friends would chip in a penny he'd have plenty of scratch left over for a sixer and a slice of pie.  Seriously, that totally sucks!

Greg Shirilla has been seen behind the bar at the Continental recently which is a whole new concept to get used to and he's also been working on some new music. I hear a new DJ Foulmouth cd is in the works.  Aww shucks...

Tim Kerr has an opening at The Bottletree in Alabama on November 18th and currently has a piece at PS1 MoMA in New York.

I'll post more about our other artists when I get a chance.  In the meantime kill some time at work and visit their sites yourself.

News from Jeremiah Ketner.

This Friday night October 6th I will be in three shows that all have openings on the same night. If you are in Chicago please come by my studio and have a look at some of my newest work in its natural environment. The Splat Flats, where I rent my studio, is having an open studio night as participants of Chicago Artist Month. The Splat Flats is basically 28 artist studios located and part of an old fashion style lumber yard. Its a great place to make art and I am always found of the folks who paint there.

Time Out Chicago has a shot of my studio on the cover this month and also some extra shots inside.

RENOWNED
“It’s All Wood” October 2006
Curated by Ryan Bubnis
Wood has provided artists with a unique surface matter since the inception of art itself. Over 30 national and international art stars whose backgrounds stem from animation, film, toy design, comic publishing, and fine art will continue in this tradition. Bizarre found wood objects and the use of wood grain are strongly encouraged in the creation of these works. No frames or canvas here, not to worry though, “Its All Wood.”
